Solid Edge Surfacing: Gold Ring with Diamond Part2

This is part 2 of the tutorial that shows how to model a gold ring and the diamond as shown in image below:

To create a simplistic diamond, create an octagon in the Top(xy) plane.

Use the technique illustrated in this blog to create a regular polygon with eight sides or if you are on a Solid Edge version that has the Polygon command, use it to create an octagon of size 5.

Another alternative is to use the nSidePolygon.exe found in Solid Edge's \Custom\nSidePolygon\bin folder.

In another plane parallel to and above the Top (xy) plane, create another octagon by Including image the earlier octagon and Scaling image with a factor of 0.65

In yet another plane parallel to and below the Top (xy) plane, create a Point image 


From a side view the planes of the larger octagon, smaller octagon and the point appear as shown.

Start Lofted Protrusion image and select the two octagons to create the part of stone as shown.



Finish the Protrusion.

Start Lofted protrusion image again and select the Chain option.



Pick the larger octagon.

To pick the point, change the option to Point.



Preview and Finish the lofted protrusion.

This forms the lower portion as shown.


A Face Style called Gold is available for ring.


So the next step is to create a face style for the diamond.

The detailed steps to create a new face style is illustrated in this tutorial.

Read the last few relevant steps and come back here. Name the style as diamond.

The completed stone with the face style applied should appear as shown.

Final step is to assemble the diamond with the ring which can be accomplished in a new assembly file.

Given the dimensions provided so far for the sketches of the ring and the stone, the relative sizes of the two appear as shown besides.

Make sure in the Format View dialog, the Reflections check box is checked ON under the Rendering tab.
